There is no way to accurately describe this magnificent place. It is truly a palace. The grounds are lovely with sheep, chickens and three friendly dogs. Sperello and his wife are wonderful hosts with lots of suggestions for places to go in the area. six of us stayed there together and it was very roomy and we never felt crowded. the little town is a 2 minute walk, two large grocery stores are a 7 minute walk. Know that there are several steps to the top apartment so we got our exercise for sure each day.

Mille grazie arrivederci.

Our family had a wonderful stay at Villa Aureli in the second floor apartment. The kids experienced it like they stayed in a museum. We could picture ourselves living in the previous century and we give a big salute to Sperello and his wife for giving the opportunity to others to live in such a place for a few days. The view of the area around is absolutely amazing. A definitive plus also was the wonderful pool. Not too big but big enough to keep the kids very happy. The owners (Carla and Sperello) made us feel welcome and are very friendly. The dogs were nice as well and friendly to the kids who really loved them.

We had a wonderful time at Villa Aurelia, directions were good, we had prompt responses and the accommodation was excellent. We enjoyed our contract with Sperello and Carla, they were great with the kids and made us feel very welcome. We would recommend it. Thanks.

Staying in the Villa Aureli was the most perfect end to our 2 weeks in Italy. Charming and relaxing! Thank you Carla for showing us your house. We loved using the barbecue too!

We have had a wonderful week in the house and have enjoyed the beautiful setting, the charming buildings and the great hospitality of our hosts.
Adolfo West, August 2013

Sperello and Carla,
fabulous to be back again with family and this time with friends in Adolfo East. It’s wonderful hoe the apt. can take two families comfortably. We really enjoyed day trips to Perugia and to Torgiano (restaurant). The kids have loved the pool of course, and finding eggs under hens. Luke even made a pie with some of the lemon curd! Yum! We all love Pio the duckling; we hope her leg gets better! But the dogs will take care of her.
Next time we will come for a week and visit new towns e.g. Montepulciano and the village with the restaurant in the roman theatre (Bevagna?)
We really enjoyed the company of the Dutch-Norwegian families, and another wonderful evening at the “Tower of the Pigeons” (Torre Colombaia in the forest).

Beautiful is the only word that describes our stay at the Villa Aureli. I am so grateful for my time here. In all my life I will never forget this place, its history, and the friends and memoriesI made because of it. I pray that someday I can return and show my family what a blessing I had in staying here. Like the lemon trees it grows, the Villa Aureli is always in season.

I’d better not mangle my father’s first language any further.
I hope we can repay your hospitality in Boston, or - better yet – at Tanglewood, in the Berkshires, my orchestra’s summer home!

The villa is fantastic! We enjoyed the huge apart that we stayed in, and the antique furniture: It was a privilege to stay here. The dogs and the ducks were excellent neighbors and we will miss them.
Adriana’s cooking was spectacular. Every meal was a perfectly cooked home meal and we strongly recommend it to anyone reading this.
The Count and the Contessa were excellent and warm hosts. Thank you for helping us with everything we needed and making our stay wonderful.

We've had a great time staying in this beautiful apartment. The pool was a great place to cool down, particularly during our first week when it was too warm for sight-seeing. This was a fabulous base from which to visit Perugia, Assisi & Siena.

We have stayed here almost a month, and it has been wonderful to have such a lovely and beautiful "home" base to explore the gorgeous country side of Tuscany and Umbria. Thank you to Carla & Sperello for sharing a part of their wonderful villa, giving us an opportunity to experience a bit of history. We enjoyed our four dinners cooked by Adriana with the menu planned by Carla. All the dishes were great, but i loved the mushroom lasagna especially! Yummy. We got to enjoy the affectionate company of Pepe, Eco and the latest addition to the menagerie - Sissi the duckling who swam with us in the pool. We also got to chase the sheep (just a little), saw rabbits, pheasants, as well as an owl on one of walks on the grounds. On my birthday we arranged for one of Adriana's dinners. Carla made a lovely menu and it was a great meal, with the little touch of a "heat" candle and a sweet arrangement of flowers. Thank you Carla for making this birthday so memorable. It was also Petro's & my anniversary, so we will always remember our time here. It's been a lovely stay here and we hope we will have an opportunity to return one day.

To our hosts for a wonderful, relaxing week at the Villa Aureli! We loved the accommodation and we expecially loved the animals!
The pool was exceptional, and so are the views.
We hope to be able to come back again one day…

Hospitalité et leur jentillesse.

What a beautiful apartment. The combination of historic decoration with comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms has been most appreciated. The coolness has been a refuge in this heat wave. We have not ventured out as much as we intended, the extraordinary heat has meant that your refreshing pool in its beautiful setting has been too tempting but we have enjoyed some “Umbria Jazz” in Perugia and can highly recommend both Ristorante Ottavi (which seems to have moved 2 minutes down a side turning opposite its old location in a more “country house” setting) and Pizzeria la Costiera in their very different ways – both had kind and charming staff. Especially thanks for the kindness in offering Thomas a piano to try out some of the chorus lines of “Otello” and “Tosca”; his time with Dorset Opera being the reason we are having to leave after only five days..

Magnifico! We’ll try not to forget all the lovely details of the Villa and the time we had.
Absolutely magical place… we will certainly be back. What fun we had…wonderful for the children with the hens, the ducks, the goats!

To everyone at Villa Aureli!
…It’s like a place in an Italian film. To all the next people visiting it it will be an extremely good holiday thanks to the generosity of Sperello and Carla, the animals, the pool and the splendid house! You never had to leave the house to have a fantastic day! Thank you.

…how could you possibly improve your service! Our stay here has been delights in every respect. Such has been our delight that we haven’t ventured far afield but we did go to Iris Origo’s garden at La Foce but found that it lacked the charm of this one.
2nd floor, July 2010
Little did I realize what a wonderful place we would arrive at, so packed with beautiful furniture, pictures and so much to feast our eyes on. You have been the most welcoming and generous hosts and we had everything we could wish for to suit alla ages. We spent most of our time here at the Villa as it always seemed to call us back. Many jolly dinners, barbq and aperitives whie Martin played the piano. It has been a really memorable family gathering…

We have loved staying in Adolfo West and are very sad to leave. We will miss the beautiful Villa gardens and your kind hospitality. We have a special memory of a delicious lunch prepared by Adriana and enjoyed “fuori” under the trees.

We are very sad to be leaving tomorrow after a perfect, tranquil, beautiful stay in Villa Aureli. The apartment is lovely, comfortable, and endlessly fascinating, and the beautiful garden and grounds just add to the delightful sense of being in an extraordinary place. We had an excellent meal with friends at Il Ristorante Ottavi, and brought back some delicious breads, pizzas, cheeses, and other food from Arte Bianca for lunch and dinner. Many thanks for your hospitality.

We have had a wonderful stay at Villa Aureli and are truly sorry to leave. Highlights: Assisi; the trip to Panicale; the Etruscan necropolis under the supermarket at Strozzacapponi. We recommend Ristorante Ottavi, and Pizzeria Torre Colombaia.

Grazie, Merci Villa Aureli.
You are an inspiration to us; that in these times when the old civilization of finesse + sweetness disappears ever more, some protect it and make it flourish. So that now we take some of it with us in our memories to spread it elsewhere. The sweetness of this place is such, though, that it hurts to go.

We had a wonderful week of our vacation here at Villa Aureli. Swimming, catching sheep, playing games, relaxing, BBQing, sunbathing, playing with Pepe, and good conversation were just a few of our daily happenings. Thank you very much for your historical tour of the Villa. We felt very much at home here and have fallen in love with Umbria and its people. Your wife's ice-cream was tasty and your daughter Laura was fun for my family to talk with. I hope some day to meet your son after talking with him on the phone.
Best wishes and best regards

We very much enjoyed staying here. Villa Aureli is with its charme still impressive. Like last year, we definitely don’t feel like leaving.
Maybe until next year and thank you very much for all the hospitality!

June 3, 2006 – June 10, 2006. Thanks so much for allowing us to stay in such a beautiful place. We loved it! For my high school graduation present I wanted to see Italy. Staying in this Villa has made it such a wonderful experience for us. Not only is the Villa itself beautiful but also the amazing view of the Italian countryside and the friendly staff have been great! Luckily we have 1 more week to stay in the downstairs apartment because I am not ready for our stay to end! Thanks again!

December 2005 - As the year comes to an end, we toured Umbria in deep winter. A heavy snow storm came as we visit Assisi. The snow is still covering the hills + even the edges in the garden here.
The absolute high light of our visit was dinner in Bevagna at l’Orto degli Angeli. The gorgeous dining room in old Roman walls + vaulted ceilings was complemented gy the A(+) cooking. It was by far our best meal. (Just take the road to Pila and keep going to bevagna)
We braved the cold winter for long walks everywhere. I hope the next time we visit Italy will be in a milder season!
For us Americans staying in this very old house was an unusual experience. We did our best to tread lightly and allow history to continue to unfold in this enclave of suspended time and preserved heritage.
Debby and Mark - Tucson, Arizona
p.s. Orvieto is the best town; charming. Spoleto ugh, lots of construction and dirt. Spello is very nice! Spello is up-scale, immaculate, great wine shops.
Sept. 24th – Oct 8th 2005
Again a wonderful stay, for the second time in a few months, in this beautiful Villa Aureli (see also our notes os May 2005).
The lovely apartment and the garden, we really enjoyed it! This time of the year the swimming pool was an extra for us.
But most of all, every day being greeted by Wiskey and Cactus-Minime is really very special!!
Ed and Els
p.s. We will come back for the third time!
Villa Aureli, endroit magique, admirable, aux racines profondes.

Thank you for letting us stay in your amazing house. We have had the most wonderful time – lounging by the pool, eating pizzas & exploring the local countryside. The tour of the house was fascinating. Ryan will be very sorry he didn't get to see the 17 th century globes that were made before New Zeeland was even discovered.
We will do our best to be back here next year,
David, Jean, Duncan, Kimberley, and Angela (and Ryan in spirit).

Dear Pietro, Sperello & Carla,
My wife Lisa, son Dana, and I wish to thank you and your hospitality towards welcoming us to Villa Aureli. We thoroughly enjoyed the Umbrian countryside and all it has to offer, but nothing made our daily journeys more satisfying than returning to your beautyful villa.
My son and I enjoyed swimming in the pool everyday, and my wife enjoyed strolling through the grounds of the villa and the vegetable garden.
My son would like to add the following: “I like playing with Whisky. Dana”.
Jim, Lisa & Dana
Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us and for your gracious hospitality! We enjoyed the tour of the villa and its interesting history.
